Why You Probably Won't Keep All Your Resolutions

And why that's not such a bad thing.

I alone have 23 resolutions. Yes, 23. I don't expect myself to follow through on all of them — I'm not perfect. But I can use them as guidelines.

What resolutions you don't stick with will reveal what is not important to you at this point in your life. It's not necessarily all bad. Maybe reading a book a month isn't feasible for you with a crazy schedule? So? That's why we have, next month, and next month.

However, that's not an excuse to not finish something or give up. It's a guideline, not a rule. It can be flexible — changed. Once your first month rolls around, you can gauge your progress, and from there, make adjustments accordingly. Lofty resolutions are okay. You don't have to keep them. You can sift out the ones you really want to focus on and determine what's important to you on your own terms.

But don't just use it as an excuse to completely ignore the opportunity for self improvement or not make an effort.

Redirect your focus. Put in the work. You got this.
